Anita Burney

is honored with a Brick from the Church Women United in Wichita.

 Anita  Burney Mrs. Anita Burney has served Church women United for many, many years, serving as President of CWU in Wichita for the years 1967 through 1970.

During her Presidency, she was instrumental in bringing the Meals on Wheels program to Wichita, which continues to this day. She was also on the planning committee for the Church Women United National Assembly held at Purdue University, Lafayette, Indiana.

She has been very active in the Wichita area, serving in such organizations as St. Francis Auxiliary, helping to start the St. Francis Hospital Gift Shop, Links Inc., Urban League Guild, and is on the Trustee Board at Calvary Baptist Church. She is a Past Worthy Matron and Past Grand Worthy Matron in the Order of the Eastern Star, Prince Hall Affiliation, Kansas Jurisdiction.

Anita is married to Dr. William W. Burney, 53 years on May 4, 1998. Their three grown children sponsored their parents' 50th wedding anniversary in 1995 and their pride and joy are four grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

When we look past the statistics to the woman, Anita exemplifies a virtuous woman. She's warm, loving, gracious, fun to be around, a valued mentor, and role model. She enjoys sewing, cooking, volunteering, helping others and traveling.

Because of the many contributions of Mrs. Anita Burney, to Church Women United, to Wichita and the community, she was highly recommended to be among the women honored in the Plaza of Heroines at Wichita State University.
