The Heroines

Alana Friedman

is honored with a Brick from Judy & Doug Rope, Sandy & Marc Jacobs

Alana Friedman

What should we give our Mom, Alana Friedman, for her birthday? She is such a fabulous mother and grandmother of ten grandchildren that we wanted our gift to be as special and unique as she is to us.
A brick is an unusual gift for a beautiful woman, but this brick has an important significance at the WSU Plaza of Heroines. In so many ways, she is a heroine and the matriarch of our family. And WSU has been important to Mom ever since she married and moved to Wichita in 1979.
When visiting family in Wichita, Alana met her soon-to-be husband, Gene Friedman. On a date he took her to see the artwork and sculptures on the WSU campus- and it has been a part of her life ever since. Moving to a new city was not easy but Wichita, and WSU, welcomed Alana and made her feel at home.
Alana is WSU basketball team’s biggest fan! Shocker basketball season is her favorite time of year; she can talk hoops and stats like a sportscaster and she never misses a game.
Through the years, Alana has endowed a scholarship fund in Gene’s honor and has been a patron of the arts on campus, publishing a brochure for visitors to the university. Alana is always doing things for her family and friends, so on this birthday, we wanted to do something special just for her.
Happy Birthday, Mom!
