The Heroines

Carol Ross

is honored with a Large Paver from Vivian Elise Denman

 Carol Ross

Born Carol Louise Roberson in Bartlesville, Oklahoma and known lovingly as “Sis”, Carol attended Douglas School before moving to Wichita, Kansas. She had already earned enough credits to graduate; however, her father felt she was too young. So, Carol attended North High School in Wichita and graduated in the upper 10% of her class at the ripe old age 16. She was honored with an acceptance from Friends University.

Carol married John Vernon Ross; raised two children, Vivian Elise (Bunny) and Vernon Lawrence (Larry); and actively engaged in spiritual, civic and social callings, as well as continuing her education. And, she was a working mother….quite a model for a modern day heroine. I’ve chosen to honor my Mom, mentor and best friend because she has always been an inspiration and guide to me, personally, and to generation upon generation of family, friends and untold others. She drops everything to travel however many miles it takes to lend her supportive shoulder to loved ones; she is the one with whom you can discuss topics from politics to portfolios; she is the first in and last out in chairing, organizing, working or implementing events for various organizations; she offers gifts of time, energy, and the fruits of her wisdom to fledgling sorors still defining their futures; she has been working diligently for years in support of Omega Psi Phi fraternity’s scholarship fundraising; she oversaw the care of her infirmed parents; and she shared her home and cared for her invalid brother. To know of her boundless love, self sacrifice, and devotion makes it clear to see how she inspires so many. And, to understand that she has embraced life’s toughest challenges with open arms and optimism reveals an intelligent, nurturing and industrious woman, a guide and a true heroine.
