The Heroines

Nancy Katherine Hall

is honored with a Brick from Linda Gill.

August 19, 1886 - May 14, 1972

Nancy (Hannon) Hall was raised on a farm in Linn County Missouri. She married Olean Chester Hall on October 17, 1900. They had eight children: Mabel, Walter, Estyl, Edna, Donald, Carl, and Loland. One son Charles died at six months of age in 1904. They lived several years in Missouri before moving to El Dorado, Kansas during the oil boom. While in El Dorado she worked outside the home at a laundry. After living some time on a farm in Neosho County Kansas, they moved to Wichita, Kansas where they spent their later years.

Great-Grandmother Hall was the personification of the word matriarch. She was a devoted mother and good homemaker. She held her family together and supported her children no matter what sacrifice was required of her. Grandmother taught all of us to love our families unconditionally. It didn't matter how far away we were or how long since we had seen her, she was always anxious to share in our lives and keep up-to-date on our progress. She never lived in the past, she was always interested in the present.

For many years there was a large family reunion held in Wichita around the time of their anniversary. This tradition enabled extended family members an opportunity to know one another that would not have otherwise been possible. What I remember most is her smile that brightened her whole face, her laugh that was so contagious, and her hugs that were many and always warm.
