The Heroines

Marti Farha Ammar

is honored with a Brick from Gracia Toubia - Stucky

I watched her raise her two children since they were both toddlers in car seats. She protected them with the fierceness of a lioness protecting her cubs. She steered them into responsible life and away from trouble like an ancient sailor. She helped them feel connected to their ethnicity, their community and a larger sense of purpose.

Marti understands the richness and complexity that come from multiple cultural belongings and never tries to simplify it. Always supportive of her friends, community, the needy around her and always a strong voice to the politically silenced. Her zest for life and her fun disposition are quite contagious. She had the astuteness and the sensibility to realize that one has to shed the old to move on to the new and one has to need less in order to become more.

May she be always guided by her inner light in her newfound journey and may all her angels protect her along the way. May she also become the prolific Arabic orator and writer she always dreamed to be.
