The Heroines

Mardeane Hummer

is honored with a Large Paver from Lloyd Hummer Family

Mardeane Hummer was born 14 March 1944 on a farm near Liberal, MO. She attended Pittsburg State University, married and lived in several places prior to moving to Wichita in 1967 where she has remained. She has participated in a number of ways in the Wichita community. She has been in business, a volunteer in many civic organizations, her church and the schools but most importantly, deeply involved in the lives of her family.

She and her first husband Larry Frasco founded the Portobello Road restaurant in 1972, one of the more elegant and sophisticated dining establishments in Wichita when it opened.

Mardeane and I married in1977. She assumed the task of helping to raise and nurture our combined seven children, ages six to 18 only one of which she brought into the marriage.

Mardeane was involved with Project Concern for years and was both a board member and President of the local chapter and, in addition, served as Walk Director. She was active with Friends of the Wichita Art Museum and was President of that organization for its 50th year of existence. She was President of the College Hill School PTA and a room mother many times. At East Heights Methodist Church she was twice co-chairperson of the French Market. Involvement with the political process led to her being named Office Manager of the Sedgwick County Republican Party during the Reagan-Bush campaign.

For 15 years, she has worked at Warren Travel and has taken numerous groups to destinations both domestic and foreign. She is a group leader of excellence and also serves as vice president of Warren Travel.

However, she is most appreciated and loved by her family and others for all the time, attention, support and love she has bestowed upon her husband and our seven children, six daughters/sons-in-law and 12 grandchildren. She is a devoted Wife, Mother, Nana and Best Friend.
