Katie Lansdowne

is honored with a Brick from Kathryn Culbertson and Geraldine Rathbone.

 Katie  Lansdowne Miss Katie Lansdowne, beloved aunt of Geraldine Rathbone and Kathryn Culbertson, grew up on a farm near Elk Falls, Kansas, surrounded by four sisters and six brothers. She started teaching school at a small schoolhouse in Elk County when she was sixteen. The rest of her life was devoted to teaching. She taught in Kansas schools for fifty-two years before retiring as head of the English Department at North High School in 1954, a position she had held since the school opened in 1929. She had taught at Franklin, Harry Street, Emerson, Irving and Lincoln elementary schools, and Hamilton Junior and East High School before going to North High.

She attended college while teaching, beginning at Friends, then going to Emporia State University and Columbia University; she graduated from Wichita University with a Master's degree in 1926. She died in 1979 at the age of ninety-seven.
